Chiba Institute of Technology (President: Joichi Ito) is pleased to announce that Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko has been awarded an honorary doctoral degree. Since 2020, Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko has made great contributions to Chiba Institute of Technology as a professor and principal staff scientist at Institute for Geo-Cosmology.

In February 2024, Chiba Institute of Technology established a system to award honorary doctoral degrees to those who have made particularly significant contributions to scholarship and society and are expected to make further contributions to the university's education and research, or those who have made significant contributions to the university's education and research. Princess Akiko will be one of the first five to be awarded honorary doctoral degrees since the inception of this program.
