Graduate School of Engineering
|Educational & Academic Purposes of the Graduate School of Engineering|
The Graduate School of Engineering offers education and research opportunities to enhance the fundamental abilities of engineering acquired through undergraduate education. The school’s master’s programs are designed to produce engineers and researchers with an advanced level of engineering expertise who can enable the flexible and creative practice of engineering in industrial circles. The doctoral program is designed to produce researchers who have the most advanced level of engineering expertise, a broad perspective and excellent integrated judgment, and are able to be leaders in the pursuit of fundamental and pioneering research and other various fields of activity associated with engineering.
Master’s Program in Mechanical Science and Engineering
The Mechanical Science and Engineering program comprises the following four fields; Energy engineering which addresses engine performance in transportation equipment such as cars and energy conversion in thermohydrodynamic devices such as heat exchangers; Mechanical system engineering which addresses manufacturing using high efficiency, high precision technologies for design, processing and control; Precision engineering which addresses precision measurement and machining, and microfabrication; and Materials engineering, which addresses the creation of new materials, eco-materials, and new processing technologies. Several academic staff are assigned to each field in order to solidify and extend the foundational learning acquired through undergraduate education. Students absorb and apply advanced science and technology through study in multiple subjects. The course is built around seminars and experimental learning, fostering vision and creativity which enables students to identify issues by themselves, and to plan and implement solutions. For mature students, we offer advanced professional education with a flexible course schedule taught by an extensive faculty responsible for specific subjects within each field. The majority of students graduating from this course go on to make a social contribution as production, design or development engineers or researchers in industry. The course also develops the abilities required to advance to a doctoral program.
Master’s Program in Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering
The specialist fields in this program Include Electric engineering, which addresses the generation, transmission, and conversion of electrical energy and its efficient use; Electronics engineering, which deals with the development of new electronic materials and devices, and communication, metering and control using electrical and optical signals; and Information engineering, concerning systems and networks for rational processing of information such as images and signals. These fields represent the basic technologies for today’s daily life and industry, or what is called the information society. Their importance is growing daily. Consequently, the program consists of six specialist fields; Electrical and Electronic Basic Engineering, Electrical System Engineering, Metering and Control Engineering, Information Media Engineering, Information Communication Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Applied Engineering. By providing basic and advanced subjects in each field, the course aims to foster engineers and researchers who have a wide-ranging basic knowledge of electrical and electronic information engineering, combined with deep specialist knowledge.
Master’s Program in Life and Environmental Sciences
An important theme in recent years has been studying vital areas of biological and ecological systems and structures, and applying them to create new engineering technology and solve environmental problems. This Master’s Program aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of various events involved in life and environmental issues, based on fundamental disciplines such as chemistry, physics, and biology. The program aims to develop engineers and researchers having broad expertise and technological capabilities, with an underlying perspective and ideas that are friendly to the earth and life.
Master’s Program in Architecture and Civil Engineering
Architecture and Civil Engineering combines general studies with basic scholastic ability in specialist subjects including construction, local communities, cities, and the natural and global environment. It is a discipline which fosters advanced knowledge and skills, as well as broad vision and the ability to respond flexibly to range of requirements. This course comprises five research fields; Design, Community Planning, Environmental Engineering, Structural and Materials Science, and Disaster Prevention and Geotechnical Engineering. The course reflects contemporary issues and is characterized by diverse and creative education and research. Each field goes beyond classroom learning, with extensive industry-government-academia cooperation, taking a practical, hands-on approach to socially-oriented education and research. Through these approach, students experience business planning, research and technology development, product development, assessment, consulting, and other business fields. In this way, the course aims to foster advanced specialists in engineering and research who can lead in a wide variety of fields. This education and research represents both leading-edge technical education and remedial training of the adults required for new engineering development, while meeting the need for advanced lifelong learning.
Master’s Program in Design
In response to changes in contemporary society such as the development of information and communication technologies, diversifying needs, declining birthrate, and aging population, as well as emerging environmental problems, this Master’s Program has five research fields: Environmental Design Science, Universal Design Science, Information Design Science, Material Design Science, and Product Design Science. The program covers education and research in modern design fields in which use is emphasized more than manufacturing.
Master’s Program in Advanced Robotics
The Advanced Robotics Master’s Course covers the fields of engineering on which robotics is based, including mechanical, electrical, electronic and information engineering, and is intended for students who have acquired basic knowledge and skills in engineering through undergraduate studies. The course offers interdisciplinary education and research opportunities to develop highly specialized knowledge and application and research abilities for robot development, thereby aiming to contribute to promoting the interdisciplinary and integrated development of engineering studies. This course offers specialized education and research opportunities in four fields of study: 1) Motion Intelligence Robotics, 2) Intelligence Creation Robotics, 3) Biofunction Robotics and 4) Sense/Sensibility Robotics. Students who acquire advanced knowledge and skills in robot development are expected to be actively involved in creative efforts for the research and development of robots in an extensive range of industries.
