Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering

Features

The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering pursues wisdom and ingenuity for people’s safe and comfortable lives. This department covers diverse studies from engineering and its related natural sciences, social sciences and humanities to the arts. Optimizing such knowledge, students learn design from a broad sense, which includes identifying issues in individual lifestyles, local communities, the natural environment, traditional culture, natural disasters, urban landscapes and the global environment and making proposals for solutions to such issues. The educational goal of this department is to nurture creators of 21st century culture with both hardware/software and development/preservation capabilities in the architectural, regional and urban fields.

Curriculum

Professional architects and architectural engineers need to take into account relationships between architecture and the local community/urban environment. This department combines human science and social science with natural science as a base for a wide range of learning concerning various lifestyles. In this department, which places more emphasis on practical skills than on lectures, students from the first year engage in actual drawing, design and model making, through which they can recognize the knowledge and information required for monozukuri. Undergraduate university life is positioned as four years for finding the motivation to become a professional and engage in a lifelong career in architectural engineering, whereas graduate school provides higher-level content for students who desire to pursue more specialized knowledge.

Building and Civil Engineering Course

This course of study provides such basic theories as Dynamics, Materials Studies and Environmental Engineering, which are essentials for engineering. Through experiments and practical training, students acquire practical capabilities in their specialized field.
The educational goal is to nurture engineers who can take a leadership role in the comprehensive construction business, various types of specialized construction businesses, construction consultant companies and technical consultant offices
