This graduate work reflects students' original ideas
rather than stereotyped ideas.

A lesson is given to work out functional designs
for kitchens.

An experiment on a lifter is to be used for moving
to a bed from a wheelchair.

School
To develop a user-friendly product design, many elements must be considered,
including the appearance of the product and space, ease of use and
development, safety and price. In addition to the design, many other
aspects, such as people, society, technology, economy, world, history,
art, environment, science, engineering, living and nature, must be
considered. This department is designed to produce environmental and
product designers by offering educational opportunities to learn ergonomics,
material planning, computer-aided design and computer graphics. The
department consists of six courses: the Environmental Design Course,
which is an integrated study of architecture and interiors; the Product
Design Course, which covers the theory and practical skills of design;
the Information Design Course, which focuses on the design of information
systems; the Universal Design Course, which concentrates on formulating
designs that work regardless of who uses the product; the Materials
Design Course, which centers on designs that suit material characteristics
and material plans; and the Advanced Science Course, through which
students acquire advanced knowledge based on the previous five courses.
Students are encouraged to take classes outside the scope of their
courses to get a broader range of knowledge.

Industrial Design
Unlike general design, where the emphasis is on the creative senses
or expression, industrial design places greater significance on
engineering viewpoints. Such basic elements as comfort and functionality
common to all kinds of design are studied. More specialized education
is offered through four courses: Environmental Design Science, Information
Design Science, Products Design Science and Human/Design Science.
They are designed to produce people who can create design ideas
for the benefit of humans in the real world. The doctoral course
offers an opportunity to pursue a higher level of research from
an engineering viewpoint, aiming to produce talented educators and
researchers with engineering and artistic backgrounds.
